BUSY WEEK!

Phew! What a busy week we have had! Not as much cleaning and organizing this week...but that's okay, we still accomplished a lot!
More importantly than work--we shared some cookies and milk and some talking time...a cookie break if you will. Reese and Rumor love going to the local coffee shop for a treat. When their tummies are full, we head to the back of the shop and sit around the chalkboard table and draw some of our favorite creatures. It's good to have time together, with nothing else to disturb us...just time for us to chat.

We will be having a tea party this
summer using all of these items!

So, here are some home projects that were completed...
First, the red dresser! Inside this dresser is a party waiting to happen! This is where I keep all my party supplies, cake plates, tablecloths, cloth napkins and all that other stuff that we use for special occasions. In 2010, I made a resolution to use these items more often...not to just wait for the occasional special occasion. This year, I will continue that resolution. My dresser is not entirely cleaned out yet but here are some items that I plan to use in 2011:
INSIDE the dresser!

Corn on the cob!
These items might just have
to stay in the middle of my table!

Well, I need to get back to preparing for my bookfair...that's one way to clean up the house...remove 25 boxes of books from it!!! Hey, by the way, my kitchen is still a mess...

Results!

Amazing results are taking place in my "dwelling"...
Take a look back at the photo from yesterday of my art closet...
BEFORE!

I had trouble getting to the closet...therefore everything started to pile up outside of it!!!
So, after a day long straightening and purging...I present...
AFTER!

Phew! Now maybe we can do some art projects! Everything back in the bins and back on the shelves...now to just get the hubby to haul away the broken t.v. that resides in the middle of my office floor!
It really is a great feeling when you see the results of your hard work!

Now, let's flashback once again to my little idea I presented yesterday...the magazine idea...
My planner with ideas pasted on the page
for NEW YEARS decorating and party!
I LOVE IT! Yesterday, I trimmed up and pasted my favorite ideas in my planner...now I can see what I want to accomplish all nice and tidy...no more kicking myself for LOST ideas! This is also going to help with efficiency in our lives. I love working on projects with my girls and making special treats and decorations...but often feel overwhelmed with finding the time or having the correct materials on hand. WELL, now I will be able to see ahead what I want to do and plan for it! Yeah!

Okay, so I have an idea that I want to implement for my girls artwork. They are TRUE artists at heart! Everyday, they are working on one project or another...and I love it...except my house is being OVER-RUN with art projects! AUGH! Here are some photo examples...

Our garage door, the fridge, the easel, the back door, the kitchen table, my office, their room...just to name a few "gallery" locations! So, here's my plan to make their artwork a bit neater: I am going to gather picture frames and paint them all the same color and then adhere super-strong magnets on the back of them for the garage door (which is made of metal)...then VIOLA! The R and R gallery will be open! In my office, I may hang a "clothes-line" for some more artwork. I do love seeing it displayed...especially the rainbows...but I want everything to be a bit neater. Plus, with Kindergarten right around the corner...now is the time to prepare for the influx of art projects. Remember, I will have TWO Kindergartners!

Well, time to remove the Twinkies from the tub and prep for storytime...until next time (and yes, there are still dirty dishes on my counter)...

Saturday!

I woke up this morning to breakfast in bed...French toast, fried potatoes and sausage links...followed by a cup of hot coffee! Great way to wake up! Since then, I have been buzzing around my home working on all sorts of odd and end tasks. This is catch-up weekend. Next weekend will be prepare for the largest bookfair of my Usborne career so far weekend :)

And if we could get to the art
supplies, we might just
make something!

There's a desk under all that junk!

As promised, I have photos of some "purging" projects for you.

The spark that started my buzz...Dustin was looking up information for our taxes...ugh, yes, it is that time of year. I am somewhat ashamed to admit that as organized as I may appear, I truly am not organized with paperwork. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I told Dustin that he could locate the paperwork he needed for the taxes in 3 different areas...yikes, this needs to improve! Which also means it is time to take back my office! AKA the dump! Yes, this is where things have been getting dumped for the past few months...let's say since Turkey Day? We have proof that it is a dump too...two little piggies have moved in...and consume a lot of it's space!
See them? See the piggies?

OH THE IRONY!
A magazine about organizing!

Some magazines were kept as a whole since
they have A LOT of information/ideas
that I would like to keep...but I did label
the box they now reside in!

So, as I am buzzing around, I took a quick few moments to purge a shelf in my office. THE MAGAZINE SHELF! I used to subscribe to Family Fun and Martha Stewart's LIVING...but now I am magazine free! Many still reside on my shelf tho'...time to gut them. It's been a process actually dating back to my pregnancy bed rest days...I sat on the couch and went through each magazine page by page and ripped out pages of interest and pitched the rest...Phew! I highly recommend this. PHASE 2 of my process will be to file these pages in a nice, neat filing system...WELL, that was the plan. I have since that point (5 years ago) come up with a new plan...it actually occurred to me just a few days ago. If I can't see the ideas then I won't use the ideas...so, I will be placing "said" ideas into my planner near the date in which I intend to work on "said" ideas...get it?

I would love to make this
ladybug for the girls
preschool snack in
April or May!
It will be a process...yes...but one I feel that will pay off. My second idea...which
occurred to me as prepping for this post...scan my favorite pages into my computer and have an electronic filing system for ideas that I want to reference in the future. Both will help me not kick myself and say...oh shoot! I was going to try that! Or so I hope! I may even be references these articles that I find from time to time on this blog!
Enjoy the photos...and enjoy your day...for me, it's back to work I go (and p.s. my kitchen counter has dishes on it...yikes!)...

THREE days in a row!

WOW! I kept my kitchen counter cleared off and clean for three whole days this week!
We won't discuss the piles on my desk in both my living room and office...nope.
A clean kitchen certainly does make a home look cleaner...and makes a mood brighter.
Tomorrow, I might just attempt to clean the kitchen floors! I have been avoiding the task since we are about to approach the Midwest's 5th season...MUD! Ugh! Slush and grime everywhere I look...the snow can't melt fast enough for me during this season.
Speaking of kitchens...I have long debated refurbishing an old dresser of mine (6 drawers--3 on each side..so, hip height) into a buffet for my kitchen. My kitchen is not a very big space but I thought the extra storage would come in handy...and perhaps help keep my counters clean? My fear...it will be yet another flat service for myself and my family to destroy! Any thoughts? I do love a project though and I don't think it would be too difficult to sand and re-stain this spring. Yes? No? Go for it? Garage sale it? Because after all, it currently resides in our garage!
Which brings me to my next topic...garage sale! I need to have one...I mean, not at my house but I need to drop my junk off at a friends house and have her sell it for me. I am so ready to purge! My goal for 2011 is to create space in our ever-growing-ever-filling-shrinking house...wouldn't it be nice to have an empty drawer! OR some empty space in the closet! OR an empty shelf! WooHoo! I'll post before and after projects as I tackle them...for a laugh or inspiration.
To hold myself accountable, here are some moments you'll have to look forward to----
THE RED DRESSER
THE ART CLOSET
WE LET GUESTS USE A CLOSET?
THE CREATURES UNDER THE STAIRS!
MY OFFICE
THE KITCHEN JUNK DRAWER
Well, time to relax...I worked all day with the preschoolers...and after a fierce game of tag my legs are stiff and I am tired! (Okay, really it was the two kick-boxing classes that I took this week...but it's more fun blaming the kids!)

Cough Medicine and Laundry...

There are two things we will be accomplishing today...
My "smother puppy" sits beside me on the couch...coughing and sniffling...I think it's a tv day for Reese.
I'm waiting for the doctors office to open so that I can see if we can kick these germs in the backside...so ready for Spring.
Meanwhile, my other kiddo coughs and hacks happily...still celebrating the loss of her first tooth (yesterday)...She just informed me that her favorite moment yesterday was me pulling her tooth...makes me smile.
So, my kitchen counter FINALLY got cleaned up...with the exception of my dirty dinner dishes which still grace its surface...they'll get done by dinner tonight. In the meantime, I will focus on my large pile of laundry.
Some parts of home are redundant while others--like Rumor sounding out words she sees are a welcome change--they make the dirty dishes and laundry seem tolerable.
Well, time to call the doctors office AGAIN!

CANDY!!!

Holy COW!
Yesterday was Valentines Day...a very fun day...especially now that I work in a preschool!
The kids were so excited to share their cards and treats with all of their friends...and teachers...so cute!
My own children, had their preschool V-day party during their afternoon class and came home with a lunch sack stuffed full of treats and cards. They were thrilled! Sweets are a great thing. They taste good and make you smile...usually...

I set out to clean up my kitchen today...I mean really clean. Clear the counters, wipe down everything and put away items that have been out since Christmas! WOW! As I cleaned, I continued to run into the same obstacle over and over...CANDY!
Candy from Halloween!
Candy from Christmas!
Candy from Birthday Parties!
Candy from Valentines Day!
Candy...candy...CANDY!
One would think that a mom with a sweet tooth as large as mine would have no problem taking care of this...well...I am allergic to both tree-nuts and peanuts...so, needless to say, there's not a whole lot of candy I can actually have.
Well, why aren't the children eating it? Well, our kids have to earn their candy by eating their "real" food...all GONE! Since this rarely happens we are left with a whole lot of CANDY!
What to do about it...I hate throwing it out...seems so wasteful. I can't eat it. They shouldn't eat it and our vet said to not let the dog eat it...
A dilemma!
Hmmmmmm...I feel an art project coming on...stay tuned for details!
In the meantime, tell me what you would do with all of this candy!!!
